Correction: Version 17 and earlier always default to saving files into the same folder where DesignCAD was installed. Version 18 and later default to using "My Documents" if you install with the default settings.
So for version 17, you will absolutely need to install to C:UsersPublicIMSIDesignDesignCAD 3D Max 17 or some other folder where you have full read/write permissions. The default location in Program Files will not work well for Vista or Windows 7.
